Our Story

a boutique-inspired
children’s consignment collective
Hi, I'm Candace, the owner and curator of Thistle & Wren. The doors to Thistle & Wren Boutique, first opened in September 2016, in the charming and historic Fernwood Square. I’ve always had a flair for sustainable fashion, and love of pretty things - especially if they’re pink! Pairing that with my respect for the environment, and desire to support women led business, I wanted to create something sustainable, ethical, and engaging for the community. Thistle & Wren focuses on providing quality preloved articles alongside Canadian women-led small shop brands.
Growing up on the East Coast where hosting and attending yard sales and thrift shopping were a part of my families’ values, it was important to me that Thistle & Wren focus on curating preloved pieces. There is an incredible feeling of warmth and contribution in seeing a garment or item find a new beginning in someone else’s life. The other cornerstone piece to Thistle & Wren is focusing on supporting our Canadian economy when choosing small brands to add to our collection. We aim for perfection in our consignment pieces and avoid fast-fashion brands. In our selection of new items, we focus on Canadian, current, and on-trend small businesses with ethical practices.
My inspiration for the business comes from my children. Thistle and Wren was established to teach my children that women can work hard, reach for their dreams, and achieve their goals while being engaged Mamas. Of course, having flexibility and control over my schedule, so I can watch my girls grow and enjoy my time with them while they are still small, is also a perk!
