Inspiration
This clock was the first purchase I made for Thistle & Wren. I found it in a shop on Salt Spring Island the very same week I had signed the lease. Although being home full time was fulfilling my dream of being a mamma, it became clear to me that I needed and wanted to jump into this adventure with both feet to fulfil other dreams.
Opening Thistle & Wren felt freeing and so exciting! Previously I had worked in the non-profit sector as well as a crown corp. While I loved the realm of work I was in, I found that working full time and balancing the emotional and physical needs of 2 small kids wasn’t realistic for our family and we needed flexibility. From all of those big life conundrums, Thistle & Wren materialized and moved quickly from a reverie to a physical brick and mortar boutique. When I opened the boutique in September 2016, I had an 18-month-old and 4-year-old.
The name itself symbolizes my two daughters and the bond they have with each other. My goal is to help teach my girls that empowered women empower. I want them to be able to feel proud of the work I do in the community and the fact that I took a risk to try something I felt passionate about.
